I'm a complete beginner. Will this really work for me?
First-week reactions.
honestly didn't expect to learn this fast. did 3 ebooks in two weekends and i can already read simple stuff. wild.
I tried Duolingo for almost a year and felt I was going nowhere. With these books the logic finally clicked — the mini-stories make particles make SENSE for the first time. Wish I'd started here.
Was super skeptical because I'd bought two other "complete japanese" courses before and got bored after the hiragana chapter. This one is genuinely different — feels like someone sat down and rewrote everything to actually be readable. The kanji book alone is worth the price tbh.

Bought this on a whim, no regrets. Way better than the Genki book I gave up on last year.
I'm 34 and I've been "wanting to learn Japanese" for like 8 years. Started with apps, dropped them. Bought textbooks, dropped them too. I'm on ebook 4 and I just realized I can read short sentences out loud without panicking. Small win but it's huge for me.
Started watching anime without subs after finishing book 6. Catching like 30% of dialogues now which is wild considering I started 2 months ago from zero!! the kanji book is GOLD
Clean layout. Actually readable on my phone. Good price. What more do you want.
My partner and I are going to Japan in November. Already ordered ramen using the polite forms from book 7 in a Tokyo themed restaurant, the waiter was shocked lol. Can't wait for the real trip.
honestly thought this would be one of those throwaway pdf bundles. it's not. the grammar one with the mini stories is genuinely well done. minus one star bc i wish there was audio but for $27 i'm not complaining
The memory tips for the kanji are actually genius. I've tried Anki, WaniKani, Heisig, you name it — and I always quit. With this I'm going through them and they're STICKING.
I'm 58 and learning Japanese was on my bucket list for retirement. The way this is laid out is perfect: short pages, lots of examples, never overwhelming. My granddaughter (15) is going through it too and we compare notes.
Best $27 I've spent in months. ありがとう :)
